The NK12/12 is a single-row machined-ring needle roller bearing without an inner ring. This design eliminates the separate inner ring entirely — the hardened and ground shaft journal serves as the inner raceway. Needle roller bearings are characterized by cylindrical rollers that are small in diameter relative to their length, providing high load-carrying capacity in applications where radial space is limited. The ends of the rollers are relieved slightly to modify the line contact between the rollers and raceways, preventing stress peaks at the roller ends to extend bearing service life.

   The machined outer ring, combined with the elimination of the inner ring (allowing a larger effective shaft diameter), produces a very stiff bearing arrangement.    With oil lubrication, the NK12/12 achieves limiting speeds up to 30,000 RPM, making it suitable for high-speed applications. With grease lubrication, speeds up to 19,000–26,500 RPM are achievable depending on the manufacturer and cage type.
